Donald Trump, the right-wing media and the rest of the MAGA cult spent much of the past four years painting former President Joe Biden as a brain-dead dementia patient.

They took the very real image of Biden as an aging, slower version of his old self and spun it through the MAGA propaganda machine. The end result was a caricature in which Biden spent his days drooling into a cup before settling in for his 4 p.m. bedtime.

Even with Biden out of office, Republican members of Congress and their allies in right-wing media continue to discuss the former POTUS’s age as if it’s the biggest scandal this republic has ever endured.

Their latest “smoking gun” is that an autopen was used to sign some presidential documents during the Biden administration.

“Who was really running the country?” they ask, as if they’re on the cusp of unlocking the secret to the universe.

Sleepy Joe, Autopen Joe, Dementia Joe — call him what you want. Any version of Biden that was manufactured by Trump and his cohorts would be more effective and competent when it comes to managing this country than the clown car of rake-stepping imbeciles that have been in charge for the past seven weeks.

In fact, many of the criticisms they used to lob at Biden now seem like sincere compliments.

A president who goes to bed early? I’ll take that over a guy who spends the wee hours whining on his fake social media site like an unstable teenager who didn’t get asked to prom.

A president who limits press appearances? That’s much better than having to see Trump’s bronzer-caked face on my TV at all hours of the day like a bad infomercial.

A president that oversaw an economy that was the “envy of the world” — record-low unemployment, record-high stock market and cooling inflation — while passing landmark bipartisan legislation? I don’t know about you, but that seems preferable to having a leader whose chief priority is tearing down the government and giving tax cuts to his billionaire buddies.

A commander-in-chief who stands with NATO and other American allies? That seems more beneficial for global stability than a president who wages an economy-crippling war on our friends while embracing dictators like Vladimir Putin.

And honestly, what does it say about Donald Trump that Biden, a guy who supposedly slept through his term, performed so much better than the current president?
